About the Book

EUROSIM and ASIASIM are developing a joint edited volume entitled Understanding Simulation in the AI Era. The book aims to bring together expert perspectives, accessible stories and practical case studies showing how modelling and simulation contribute to science, engineering and everyday life as artificial intelligence evolves.

We welcome contributions from researchers, educators and practitioners across disciplines. The project combines invited chapters with an open call for proposals.

Book Structure

Part I — Expert Insights

Perspectives from European and Asian experts on the definition and foundations of simulation, technological evolution, emerging methodologies and new research paradigms in the AI era.

Part II — Fascinating Simulation Stories in Daily Life

Engaging, accessible accounts of how simulation helps explain, design and improve everyday systems. Chapters in this part should reach readers beyond the specialist research community.

Part III — Typical Simulation Cases

Well-explained applications and research cases from engineering, transport, manufacturing, healthcare and other domains, offering methodological and practical lessons for students and early-career scholars.

What to Include in Your Proposal

Prospective contributors are invited to prepare a concise expression of interest containing:

• Proposed chapter title and thematic part (I, II or III)
• Names, affiliations and email address of the corresponding author
• A short abstract describing the topic, main contribution and intended audience
• A brief indication of the chapter’s planned structure and expected takeaways

Chapter at a Glance

Each chapter will include a concise Chapter at a Glance section highlighting the central question, key ideas, relevance to the AI era and main lessons for readers. Detailed author guidance will be shared with selected contributors.

Proposed Timeline

31 January 2027	Expression of interest
End of May 2027	First chapter draft
October–November 2027	Completion of the manuscript
