Modelling, Simulation and Data in the next VESS

/ May 16, 2021

Meet our next VESS speaker – Prof. Sanja Lazarova-Molnar from Denmark.  On May 28, 5 PM CEST, she will give a talk about
Modelling, Simulation and Data. Prof. Lazarova-Molnar completed her PhD in 2005 at the University in Magdeburg, specializing in the area of Modeling and Simulation. During her PhD, she developed and formalized a new simulation method, i.e. the proxel-based method that was implemented in the DaimlerChrysler simulation tool and was superior to discrete-event simulation for certain classes of problems. Prof. Lazarova-Molnar is the author of more than 100 papers published in international conferences, books and journals.

Prof. Sanja Lazarova-Molnar

is Professor of Computer Science with The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark, leading the Research Group in Modelling, Simulation and Data Analytics. Prof. Lazarova-Molnar is a Senior Member of IEEE, and currently serving as Director-at-Large on the Board of Directors of The Modeling & Simulation International (SCS). She is, furthermore, chairing IEEE Denmark and IEEE Denmark Women in Engineering Affinity Group. She was also one of the Proceedings Editors for the Winter Simulation Conference in 2019 and 2020.

Prof. Lazarova-Molnar’s current research focus is on the development of methods and tools for data-driven modelling and simulation, which combines the areas of artificial intelligence and modelling and simulation; a synergy that has been enabled through the advancements in sensing and data collection infrastructures, such as the Internet of Things (IoT). The research projects that Prof. Lazarova-Molnar currently works on are highly interdisciplinary, including data-driven extraction of reliability models from cyber-physical systems, data-driven agent-based simulation for trading markets, and modelling and simulation for enhanced sustainability in livestock farming.
